The Long Beach Homeless Coalition Advocacy Committee is a newly launched effort designed to create space designated for the sharing and discussing of key issues, needs, and events occurring in the Long Beach community pertaining to housing and homelessness.

At this meeting, we will be discussing and determining recommendations for the Coalition to take advocacy positions in favor of or against the following items:

  • Old Items
    • Grants Pass vs Johnson, Supreme Court Case
    • Safe Outdoor Spaces
    • Encampment garbage pick-ups
    • Location of tiny homes
    • Oversight of services at shelters
    • Park bathroom open/close hours
    • COC funding — request to provide education as to how these dollars are spent and what they fund
  • New items
    • Housing/Homelessness Lobby Day

Please bring your thoughts and opinions on each of these items so that we can spend the majority of our time determining our position and advocacy activity recommendations, rather than educating one another on the topics.

Process/Format for next steps:

After each committee meeting, a set of recommendations will be given the to the LBHC Board to consider before deciding and sharing an official position and proceeding with advocacy activities. New items will be raised at general meetings, and members will be given an opportunity to briefly express opinions about each new item in order to contribute thoughts and ideas to the advocacy committees. General meetings are not the forum for lengthy discussions, dialogues, or debates about topics. Please reserve those activities for committee meetings.

Thank you!
